Leading Cloud Services Vetted by Higher Ed for Research and Education
Explore NET+
Cloud services, contracts, and communities made for research and educationNET+ is powered by a higher ed peer community, which “deconstructs” leading cloud services across six key dimensions. NET+ optimizes for:
Advocating for your needs with vendors is why NET+ is here. Our shared voice is a larger, more effective voice. For feature requests, change management, contract terms, and so much more. Our community pursues shared values and vendor management at scale.
You’re invited to join us. Become a NET+ service subscriber to get the benefits of a better cloud and a better cloud community.
You’re going to use leading cloud services. You might as well deploy them in the easiest and fastest way possible while also benefiting from contract terms that make sense for research and education.
If a service is in the NET+ portfolio, you know peer institutions have reviewed service features and functionality, vetted the service for accessibility, integrations, and security, and provided input to develop a community-negotiated contract you can trust. Institutions work together with the NET+ program to pool resources and leverage a diverse skill set, saving them time and money.
By pooling the demand of many institutions and systems, the NET+ program can command greater bargaining power than any single institution or system on its own. In addition, institutions work together to vet services, negotiate contracts, and share information to reduce the overall cost of service.
NET+ agreements have been reviewed and enhanced over the past 9+ years, and will continue to be, as the landscape of cloud services continues to evolve. The Customer Agreement, which outlines the terms and conditions for subscribers, was negotiated by community experts while the terms and conditions for delivering a particular service/program were negotiated by Internet2 in consultation with the community.
NET+ agreements are backed by a multiyear facilitation agreement between Internet2 and the vendor to ensure predictable contract terms and service pricing for the life of the contract. In addition, most NET+ services have service advisory boards that work with NET+ program managers to manage vendor relationships.
NET+ programs provide various community resources and collaboration opportunities that may include a NET+ Service Advisory Board, Newsletters, Community Forums, Collaboration Spaces, Subscriber Meetings, Best Practices, Townhalls, Webinars, and Whitepapers, etc. You can find benefit details for each service by visiting their services pages.
NET+ services are tailored to meet the needs of that particular technology, including Internet2 network peering and InCommon federated identity. We work with program participants to ensure services have integrations into commonly used platforms and infrastructures.
“NET+ solutions allow us to select from pre-vetted, pre-negotiated contracts at competitive pricing and on favorable contract terms we know are on par with our higher-education peers. Our speed to adoption is greatly improved. I am grateful we have NET+ services available to us.”
—Loren Malm, vice president for Information Technology & CIO, Ball State University
“Having the NET+ forum for peers to share what they are doing in this space—both challenges and solutions—has tremendous value.”
—Shelley Rossell, lead information security Engineer, The University of Chicago
“What I love about the NET+ program is that it brings together experts from multiple higher education institutions to build out the best cloud service agreements—thinking about accessibility, security, privacy, and how we integrate tools.”
—Jack Suess, vice president for IT and CIO, University of Maryland Baltimore County
